# Terms of Service

Version 2026-11-08.1. MapIron (formerly PinSharing) is operated by **Wells Software Consulting LLC**, doing business as MapIron ("we", "us"). On November 8, 2026 PinSharing was renamed MapIron; nothing else about these terms or your account changed, and keys and addresses on pinsharing.com keep working. By creating an account or using the MapIron API you agree to these terms.

## 1. The service

MapIron provides map images, map tiles and geocoding through an API. We aim for high availability but don't promise uninterrupted service, and we may change or retire features with reasonable notice.

## 2. Your account and keys

You're responsible for activity under your keys. Restrict browser keys to your websites and keep unrestricted keys private. Tell us at hello@mapiron.com if a key is compromised; revoke it in the dashboard.

## 3. Plans, caps and billing

Each plan has monthly caps per product, shown on the [pricing page](https://mapiron.com/pricing). When a cap is reached, that product stops answering until the next calendar month (UTC) or until you upgrade. We don't charge for usage over a cap.

**Free plan.** The Free plan is offered at no charge, includes commercial use, and has lower caps, one API key and a per-second request limit. Static images made on the Free plan carry a small "Map by mapiron.com" mark, which you must not remove, crop or cover. We may change the Free plan's limits with at least 30 days' notice by email and on this page.

**Trial.** New self-serve accounts may start on a free trial with the Growth plan's caps for 14 days, or as shown at sign-up. During the trial, the Free plan's rules on the image mark and on storage (section 4) apply. When the trial ends the account moves to the Free plan automatically, and nothing is charged. We may change or end the trial offer for new accounts at any time.

**No-overage guarantee.** We never charge for usage over a cap. If we ever do, we'll refund the full fee for that billing month on request to billing@mapiron.com.

**Top-up packs.** On a paid plan you may buy top-up packs from the dashboard. Each pack is a one-time payment at the price shown at checkout. It adds the stated amounts to your account's caps for the calendar month (UTC) in which the payment is confirmed, and unused amounts don't carry over. Packs are never bought or renewed automatically, so buying one isn't overage. Packs are non-refundable except where the law requires otherwise; a pack whose payment is refunded or disputed is removed from your caps.

**Paid plans** renew each month or each year, as chosen at checkout, until cancelled; cancelling stops the next renewal and you keep your plan until the end of the paid period. Invoiced (Enterprise) plans are due within the terms shown on the invoice. Payments are processed by Stripe.

**Refunds.** If you ask within 14 days of your first payment on an account, we'll refund that payment in full; email billing@mapiron.com. Other fees are non-refundable except where the law requires otherwise.

**Business plan service credits.** For Business subscriptions we target 99.5% monthly availability of the API, as measured by our own monitoring and shown on [mapiron.com/status](https://mapiron.com/status). If availability in a calendar month (UTC) is below 99.5%, you may claim a credit of 10% of that month's fee, or 50% if it is below 99.0%. For yearly subscriptions the monthly fee is one twelfth of the yearly fee. Claim it by emailing billing@mapiron.com within 30 days after the month ends. Credits apply to future invoices, aren't paid out in cash, and are your only remedy for unavailability. Downtime doesn't count when it comes from maintenance announced on the status page at least 48 hours ahead, from your own systems or network, from a suspension under these terms, or from events beyond our reasonable control.

**Founding customer offer.** Up to 10 customers who buy a paid plan and agree with us by email may get 30% off their plan for 12 months in exchange for a short case study we may publish with their name. We may end the offer for new customers at any time.

## 4. What you may do with the output

On a paid plan you may display, cache and store map images and geocoding results for as long as you like, including in commercial products. On the Free plan you may display and cache them, and store geocoding results for up to 30 days. Output you stored while on a paid plan may be kept after you move to Free or cancel. In every case, show the OpenStreetMap attribution with the output. You may not resell raw API access, re-host our tiles as a competing service, or bulk-harvest results to build a substitute dataset.

**Parcel data.** Parcel lines come from county and state public records published under open terms; each result names its source, licence and date. You may store a parcel result indefinitely on a paid plan when its `keep_forever` field is true, and otherwise for no more than 30 days. Show the source attribution given in the response. Parcel lines are approximate: they are not a survey or a legal boundary and must not be relied on to locate property lines. Don't use parcel data to identify, contact or harass property owners, and don't extract it in bulk (for example by sweeping an area box by box to rebuild the dataset) without a separate agreement.

**Special district data.** Texas special district results (district names, boundaries, tax rates, debt and statutes) come from Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, city and Texas Comptroller public records; each answer names its sources and data version. On a paid plan you may store a result indefinitely, as of its data version. Show the attribution given in the response. The data is informational: boundaries are approximate and are not a survey, tax figures are self-reported by districts, and an answer is not a legal determination that a notice to a purchaser is or isn't required. You are responsible for any disclosure you make. Don't extract the dataset through the API (for example by sweeping points across an area) without a data licence under section 10.

## 5. Acceptable use

Don't use the service for anything unlawful, to track or locate people without their consent, to overload the service on purpose, or to get around caps or limits (for example by spreading one project across several free accounts). We may suspend keys that break these rules.

## 6. Map data

Map and address data come from OpenStreetMap contributors and are licensed under the Open Database License (ODbL). Data may be incomplete or wrong; don't rely on it for emergency, navigation-safety or legal-boundary decisions.

**Third-party data notices.** School and attendance-zone data include public data from school districts, cities and counties. Some publishers require a notice; they are listed here.

City of Chicago: This site provides applications using data that has been modified for use from its original source, www.cityofchicago.org, the official website of the City of Chicago. The City of Chicago makes no claims as to the content, accuracy, timeliness, or completeness of any of the data provided at this site. The data provided at this site is subject to change at any time. It is understood that the data provided at this site is being used at one's own risk.

## 7. Liability

The service is provided "as is". To the extent the law allows, our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, and we aren't liable for indirect or consequential losses.

## 8. Ending the agreement

You can stop using the service and ask us to delete your account at any time. We may end accounts that break these terms. Sections 4, 6, 7 and 9 survive.

## 9. School data licence

This section applies when you buy a MapIron School Data Licence, whether through checkout, an invoice or an order form. "Licensed data" means the school district, school and attendance-zone data we deliver to you, including updates during the licence term. A single-state licence covers only the data for the state or territory named at purchase; data for other states needs its own licence. "You" means the organisation named at purchase, or the purchaser if no organisation is named. Where this section and the rest of these terms differ, this section governs the licence. A signed order form or written agreement with us governs where it differs from this section.

**9.1 Term.** A licence runs for one year from payment. A licence bought as a subscription renews each year until cancelled. Download access continues for 14 days after a renewal date so a late payment doesn't interrupt you.

**9.2 What you may do.** During the term we grant you a non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to: (a) copy, store and modify the licensed data in your own systems; (b) combine it with other data; and (c) use it in the products and services you offer your own customers and end users, for example showing district and zone boundaries and likely school assignments on listing, IDX, CRM or analytics products, including through your own API, as long as your end users can't extract the licensed data in bulk. Your employees and contractors may use it only on your behalf and under confidentiality duties at least as protective as these; you're responsible for them.

**9.3 What needs a separate agreement.** Without a written agreement with us, you may not: sell, sublicense, publish or otherwise make the licensed data, a substantial part of it, or a substitute derived from it available to anyone else as a dataset, file or bulk feed, including for wholesale or resale; use it to build or improve a competing school-boundary dataset or service; remove, change or try to defeat the record identifiers in our files; or share download links, pipeline tokens or account access outside your organisation. Wholesale and resale rights are available: write to sales@mapiron.com.

**9.4 Accuracy and fair housing.** Attendance boundaries change and are set by school districts, so the licensed data is informational, not an official assignment. You will: tell end users to confirm enrolment eligibility with the school district; not use the licensed data to steer, exclude or discriminate against anyone in housing, lending, insurance or anything else covered by fair-housing or civil-rights law; and follow the laws and MLS or IDX rules that apply to your use. The licensed data contains no ratings, test scores or demographics, and you won't present it as if it did.

**9.5 Source conditions.** Parts of the licensed data come from public sources with their own conditions, which you agree to follow. Data from the U.S. Department of Education (NCES) and the U.S. Census Bureau is in the public domain. Where you show or pass on attendance zones for Chicago Public Schools (district 1709930), show the City of Chicago statement in section 6, or link to it. Other notices listed in section 6 apply the same way. If a publisher requires us to stop using or distributing its data, we'll tell you, and you'll stop using the affected records within 30 days of our notice. We'll supply replacement data where we can.

**9.6 After the licence ends.** If you don't renew, updates and downloads stop. You may keep using licensed data delivered during the term, under this section, for as long as you like. That doesn't apply if we end the licence under 9.9, or if a payment is reversed or unpaid; then you'll delete the licensed data within 30 days and confirm it in writing if we ask. Notices under 9.5 continue to apply.

**9.7 Security and tracing.** Protect the licensed data, and any pipeline token we issue you, with reasonable safeguards. Each file we deliver contains identifiers unique to your licence, so copies can be traced to it. Tell us within 5 business days if you learn of an unauthorised disclosure. Once a year, on reasonable request, confirm in writing that you're complying with this section.

**9.8 No refunds.** Licence fees are non-refundable, including in the first 14 days; the refund rule in section 3 doesn't apply to licences. This doesn't limit any refund the law requires. If a payment is refunded or reversed for any reason, the licence ends.

**9.9 Ending for breach.** We may end a licence if you materially breach this section and don't fix it within 30 days of our notice, or at once for a breach of 9.3. You may end it at any time by cancelling renewal.

**9.10 Warranty, liability and claims.** The licensed data is provided "as is", without any warranty that it is accurate, complete or current, or that any address is assigned to any school. Section 7 applies, and our total liability under a licence is limited to the licence fees you paid in the 12 months before the claim. You'll cover our reasonable costs of third-party claims caused by your breach of 9.3 or 9.4.

**9.11 Law.** This section is governed by the laws of the State of Illinois, and disputes about it will be decided in the state courts of Kendall County, Illinois or the federal courts of the Northern District of Illinois.

## 10. Texas district data licence

This section applies when you buy a MapIron Texas District Data Licence, whether through checkout, an invoice or an order form. "District data" means the Texas special district records and boundaries we deliver to you as files, including monthly updates during the licence.

**10.1 Term.** A licence runs for one year from payment. A licence bought as a subscription renews each year until cancelled. Download access continues for 14 days after a renewal date so a late payment doesn't interrupt you.

**10.2 Internal licence.** During the term we grant you a non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to copy, store, modify and combine the district data in your own systems and to use it for your own business, including in analysis, underwriting, compliance checks and reports or decisions you give your own clients, as long as you don't give anyone the district data itself.

**10.3 Display licence.** If you bought the display licence, you may also show district records and boundaries to the users of your own products and services (for example on listing pages, in closing or title software, or in reports), one property or area at a time, with the attribution in 10.6. You may not offer the district data for bulk download or as a data feed.

**10.4 Not allowed.** Without a separate written agreement you may not sell, license, share or redistribute the district data or a substantial part of it, give it to another company (including an affiliate) to use, or use it to build a dataset that competes with ours.

**10.5 Not a legal determination.** The district data is informational. Boundaries are approximate and are not a survey; tax rates and debt are self-reported by districts to the Texas Comptroller and may be out of date; a district can be missing or misplaced. The district data doesn't tell you whether a notice to a purchaser is required for any sale, and you are responsible for any disclosure you or your users make.

**10.6 Sources and attribution.** Water district boundaries come from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (public domain); public improvement districts from the City of Fort Worth under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 licence; tax rates, debt and websites from the Texas Comptroller. Wherever you show district data, show the attribution lines given in the files.

**10.7 After the licence ends.** If you don't renew, updates and downloads stop. You may keep using district data delivered during the term, under this section, for as long as you like, unless we end the licence under 10.10 or the payment is refunded or reversed.

**10.8 Security.** Protect the district data with reasonable safeguards. Downloads need two-step sign-in, and each download is logged with its size and SHA-256.

**10.9 No refunds.** Licence fees are non-refundable, including in the first 14 days; the refund rule in section 3 doesn't apply. This doesn't limit any refund the law requires. If a payment is refunded or reversed, the licence ends.

**10.10 Ending for breach.** We may end a licence if you materially breach this section and don't fix it within 30 days of our notice, or at once for a breach of 10.4. You may end it at any time by cancelling renewal.

**10.11 Warranty and liability.** The district data is provided "as is", without any warranty that it is accurate, complete or current. Section 7 applies, and our total liability under this section is limited to the licence fees you paid in the 12 months before the claim.
