Embed a map on your website
Type an address, choose a pin or an approximate area, and copy map code you can paste into any website builder.
Paste this into your website
Where to paste it
| WordPress | Edit the page, add a Custom HTML block and paste the code. On WordPress.com, scripts need a plan that allows them; the image code works on every plan. |
|---|---|
| Wix | Click Add → Embed Code → Embed HTML, choose Code and paste. Wix shows embedded code inside a frame served from filesusr.com, so if your key is limited to certain websites, add *.filesusr.com to it. |
| Squarespace | Edit the page, add a Code block, paste the code and turn off Display source. If your plan removes scripts from code blocks, use the image code. |
| Webflow | Drag a Code Embed element onto the page and paste. Webflow publishes custom code on paid site plans; the image code also works as an Image element's URL. |
| Shopify | Go to Online Store → Themes → Customize, add a Custom Liquid section and paste. |
| Google Sites | Click Insert → Embed → Embed code and paste. Google Sites shows it in a frame on googleusercontent.com; add *.googleusercontent.com to a key that is limited to certain websites. |
| Anything else | Any page or email template that accepts HTML: paste the image code. For pages that accept scripts, the interactive code works too. |
Keep your key safe on a public page
Map code on a website shows its key to anyone who views the page source. That's normal for map keys, and two things protect you:
- Limit the key to your website. In the dashboard, add your site's address to the key; requests from other sites are refused.
- Hard monthly caps. Every MapIron plan stops at its cap. If someone did reuse your key, the worst case is a map that pauses until next month, never a surprise bill.
Image or interactive?
Image code is one <img> tag: it works in every website builder and in emails, loads fastest and counts as 1 static image each time it is drawn (browsers and our CDN cache it). Interactive code loads the free Leaflet library and lets visitors drag and zoom; each view loads about 16 map tiles. See what each plan includes.
Approximate areas for listings
For rentals, home sales and marketplaces, the approximate-area option shows a neighborhood circle instead of the house. The builder rounds the location to about 1 km before writing the code, so the exact address isn't in your page source either. More in privacy-safe listing maps.
Questions
Do I need to know how to code?
No. Type the address, press the button, copy the code and paste it into your website builder's HTML or embed block.
Is it free?
The builder is free. The map itself uses your key: the Free plan includes 100 map images and 10,000 map tiles a month, and paid plans start at $19 a month with no overage bills.
Can I show more than one location?
This builder makes one location at a time. For several pins, use the static map URL with markers separated by |, as shown in the static map maker, or ask us at hello@mapiron.com.
Does the map show the OpenStreetMap credit?
Yes. Images have it in the corner and the interactive map shows it at the bottom. Keep it visible: it's required.
No developer needed
